“Web2present helps South African university of Stellenbosch get new international students for their MBA”

Challenge:

The University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB) is the business school of the University of Stellenbosch in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. USB is a leading provider of internationally accredited postgraduate management degrees and executive education and has the triple crown of international accreditations: AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA.

USB achieved first place in the 2013 PMR.africa rankings – a survey conducted among employers of MBA graduates in South Africa. Despite its top five ranking in the Top SA Business Schools, USB wanted to increase their admissions in other overseas markets as well. Whereas normally the marketing team would travel overseas, to various MBA fairs and teaming up with agents, they were approached by Web2Present who offered to recruit students for them through an ´Online Open Day´ webinar.

USB was familiar with this new approach, however had never tried it as a way to recruit International students. They piloted it and Web2present agreed to get at least 30 qualified webinar registrations of potential students from Europe, India and Africa.

Approach and Results:

To fulfill our commitment to the University of Stellenbosch, Carolina Vargas – the Social Media and Community Manager of Web2Present – explains: ´After an initial Discovery meeting to reveal the exact target-profiles, we prepared a customized social media strategy in order to min. obtain the number of promised registrations. In this case that meant the use of  a variety of social media where e.g. Web2Present´s 25.000+ followers on Facebook were a good contribution, but also reaching out through other channels such as blogs, study portals and an Ad-sense campaign.

Besides these tactics it was essential to have a ´closed-loop´ strategy; i.e. since Web2Present drives a lot of traffic to the specific webinar registration-page, potential students who see the webinar registration page often first check out the University’s own website and therefore leave the registration page. Therefore one of the key success factors was that USB had the webinar listed on their website to drive them back to the registration page and sign up for the webinar. All those actions, as well as University of Stellenbosch Business School supporting the webinar with their own initiatives, contributed to make of this webinar, a very successful one.
